Having doubts about how to get your makeup bag ready for an upcoming cruise? Experienced travelers would recommend sticking to the essentials but this is easier said than done. We always think we will need more than we need. So, my advice is to pack only a few products that will keep your skin healthy, help you glow and not take a long time to apply.

There are a few products that are my ultimate choice for a cruise. Leave your big and bulky makeup bags at home, because today I will share 5 perfect makeup items to pack for a cruise!

Facial Sunscreen

A good sunscreen is a must-have for your cruise makeup bag.  During the day, you will be exposed to the dangerous sun rays. Even with a gorgeous hat to protect your face and shoulders, the water reflects the sun’s rays.

Direct exposure to the sun is known to boost the effects of aging, so you need to protect yourself with a generous amount of sunscreen. Many women forget or ignore this step, but it so essential to long term skin health. Here is a list of 20 great choices for facial sunscreens.

Foundation with Sunscreen

A foundation that will protect the skin from the harmful UV rays is the most brilliant thing ever. Whoever thought of the idea of a product that will protect the skin and smooth fine lines and wrinkles at the same time, did an excellent job.

Here is a list of 5 option for foundation with SPF50. There are some great foundations that I love personally that include full range spectrum cover. First IT Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer™ with SPF 50+ and also Milk Sunshine Skin Tint which has 30% coverage.

When picking the right tone, consider the fact that you will have darker skin at the time of using the foundation. You don’t want to end up with a ghostly tone that makes your face too white Choose a tone that is one or two tones darker than your usual foundation and you have a winning combo.

Waterproof Mascara

A few strokes with a mascara wand will work a miracle. I love how this product can lift your eyes in just a few seconds. There are so many mascara options on the market, and I love many of them myself! But this time, you want to get a good waterproof product. You really don’t want to end up looking like a panda, so choosing the perfect formula that won’t dissolve when coming in touch with water is crucial.

Apply a light coat and wait for it to dry. Even then, you can continue and apply the second one as a final touch. Keep in mind that waterproof mascara can get clumpy and create the spider effect on your lashes. To avoid this, you would want to apply it using two light layers.

Here is Allure Magazines 2019 list of best waterproof mascaras.

Waterproof Eye Liner

Coloured waterproof eyeliner is a little trick that will save you so much time. Within a few minutes and strokes, your eyes will look so fresh. I recommend you get turquoise, purple, or gold, as these colours will look so flattering. I have fallen in love with Kiko’s Beyond Limits 12 hour eye liner.

In fact I love all their summer “Beyond Limits” makeup for summer beauty.

Applying and blending eye shadows isn’t a thing that you want to do during your cruise, as it will take some precious time. On the other hand, you won’t have to bring that huge eye shadow palette together with different blending brushes, as only a small tube of eyeliner will do the job. Just make sure that it says “waterproof” on the package, so that you won’t have to worry about it fading away.

Matte Lipstick

I honestly think that a good lipstick is almost all you need in your makeup bag. There are hundreds of lipstick formulas from plumping gloss to semi matte, pearl, moisturising and matte. Here is a list of the top types of lipstick with a fascinating history of this magic tube.

In my opinion, if you want a lasting option, then go for a matte lipstick. This way, you won’t have to fix it often and have a gaze at the mirror every 5 minutes to check if it is in place. However, you should prepare your lips first.

Proper exfoliation is the crucial part to make your lips look excellent. If you haven’t brought your lip scrub, you can do this with a wet toothbrush. Exfoliate your lips using light strokes, and don’t forget to apply balm as soon as you are finished. Now, you can apply your matte lipstick without worrying that it will end up looking flaky.

Packing makeup for a cruise should be fun and not overwhelming. Save space in that bag for a great hat, some wonderful sandals and a collage of beautiful sarong/scarves!
